Seasoned R&B/Gospel vocalist, Shirley Murdock, has been on a journey.
Since the age of 15, she aimed for a gospel career. In the `80s, Roger Troutman, funk bandleader for the group Zapp snagged Murdock a record deal with Elektra Records.
Then, in 1999, Bishop T. D. Jakes took Murdock under his wing and invited her to sing on his #1 CD, Sacred Love Songs.
Since, then, she’s toured in gospel stage plays and recorded gospel hits, like the Stellar and Dove Award nominated “I Love Me Better Than That.”
May, 2014 – “Fathers and Daughters”
I shared this with my nephew a while ago, who was planning a special Father/Daughter day with his little girl and I decided to share it with all of you…
Pastor Marvin Sapp told me something years ago that I never forgot! He said he was going to be his daughter’s first date…he was going to bring her flowers. open the car door for her, take her to a nice restaurant and pull out her chair, etc. That way he would set the standard for how she was suppose to be treated… so if some joker approaches her and comes below the standard that’s been set….brotha-man has to GET TO STEPPIN’!
Like I said, I never forgot it… God Bless you Pastor Sapp for your wisdom!
What I want say to all Fathers, is that YOU are your daughter’s FIRST!!
The first man in your daughter’s life that she will will love. You are that knight in shining armor…the first to give her that initial sense of self worth. You are the first to effect the way she sees and feels about herself!Tell her you love her and let your actions match your words.
Tell her she’s God’s Daughter, even more than she is yours…tell her she is so valuable… that THIS is what the Lord says about her in His WORD…”I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord..Plans to prosper you, to give you Hope and a FUTURE! (Jeremiah 29:11)
Tell her she’s unique…a designer original!
As she gets older, tell her that her validation should never come from other people’s opinion of her, but from knowing who and whose she is. Tell her she doesn’t have to settle or compromise her values to be with a man. She’s a princess because she is the daughter if the Most High. Tell her not to kiss any frogs, they only turn into a prince in fairy tales…if he’s not a prince right now..keep it moving!
Tell her she’s not in competition with anyone but herself…to be her BEST self!
Tell her that being single is not a curse!…It is a special time in her life to prepare and become the person she was created to be. Tell her to use her single season wisely!
Let her know that there are NO LIMITS, DREAM BIG…get her education, use everything that’s at her disposal!
She can DO ANYTHING…BE ANYTHING…even the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!
Encourage her to make wise decisions, because every decision will have an impact on her future.
And when the time comes and she desires to be married…don’t ask God to send her a husband, but rather ask Him to make her a good wife, prepared for a good husband!
Fathers remember…the way YOU treat your daughter… impacts the way she’ll treat herself!
Love u 2 Life,
February, 2014 – We need to get our “Kid-Vision” back
While sitting in the airport I watched the cutest little girl who was just learning to walk, stop in front of everyone in her path and flashed the biggest toothless grin ever. Her sheer joy invoked a feeling of warmth and giddiness that one could not help but reciprocate. As I pondered on what I just witnessed I thought to myself…we are all being touched by her pure innocence! She hasn’t been tainted by race, gender or fear of faces that looked different from her own. She didn’t see color!
We need to get our “Kid-Vision” back worldwide… pursuit it like the precious treasure it is!
All we have to do is chose love over hate and recommit ourselves to the task, no…to the honor to simply give and receive love unselfishly…boldly flashing our toothless grin!
Selah…pause and think on it!

Stronger In The Broken Places
Everybody is broken by life…but you will be stronger in the broken places! I heard this very powerful quote the other day and it stopped me in the tracks. I quickly wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget it and I had to share it with as many people as possible.
The bible tells us in Romans 8:28 “…And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” It’s not referring to just the nice, neat, sweet things that happen in our lives, but also the untidy, nasty messes we make and find ourselves thigh high in the middle of!
I began to think about all the good stuff that’s only accessible when the outer shell is broken. How we could never enjoy scrambled, fried or deviled eggs, if the shell wasn’t broken and that treasure of goodness wasn’t released. Let’s not forget about those delicious walnuts, pecans, almonds and macadamia nuts that we so eagerly crack out of the shell to tantalize our taste buds.
One day I was broken and shattered…the day I lost my mother. I felt physical pain as my heart bled from the cut of the invisible cord, that once connected us. We know that when a child is born, it is still connected to the mother by way of the umbilical cord. It’s amazing how nether the mother nor child feels any pain at the cutting of that visible cord. Yet, we stayed connected by an invisible cord …the one that would send your mother her to her knees, when she’d sense you were in danger…or no matter how hard you tried to pretend like everything in your life was great, she’d say, Baby…what’s wrong?” You could be calling from another country and somehow, she ‘d know! There is nothing in life you’ve lost, that God hasn’t found and He never leaves us empty!
The Lord promises, “… for those who grieve…”… beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair…” Isaiah 61:3 (NIV)
It’s not until the olive is crushed, that the oil is released! The woman with the alabaster jar of very expensive oil/perfume, broke it and poured it on Jesus’ head. The oil and it’s fragrance wasn’t released until the box was broken! The oil of the anointing…is the power of God that enables you to do what you ordinarily could not do…it’s His SUPER on your NATURAL!
For all the times and places you’ve been broken, disappointed and crushed…take heart and remember, whatever you’ve lived thru…you were meant to survive… and not just survive, but to be a witness, a testimony and a light for those who are in the middle of that dark situation.
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…” Revelation12:11(KJV)
I have testimony today for those who have not only lost their mother, but also their father and loved ones who died tragically! My oil of joy, is knowing that when we’re absent from the body, we are present with The Lord and knowing that my praise, is a sweet smelling fragrance that goes up before the throne of God! I can testify to the fact, that it gets better!
I can testify to the fact that one day, those hot bitter tears of sorrow, will turn to sweet tears of joy as you remember to celebrate the light that is their life… in your heart! Weeping may endure for a night (a period of time) but joy comes in the morning.
If this message just hit the bullseye of your heart..here is a prayer you:
Father…I acknowledge that I need you…I believe that you sent your son Jesus to died on the cross for me and all my stuff! Today Lord, I’m leaving all my stuff (my sins, my hurt, my disappointment, my guilt and shame) at the foot of the cross and asking you to cleanse me, save me, heal me…and make me stronger in the broken places! In the matchless name of Jesus I pray…Amen!
To God be the Glory…Love u 2 Life,
